This course is a fun introduction to the sport of backcountry skiing. You will learn about backcountry gear and the basics of touring while actually touring around the backcountry of Snoqualmie Pass with one of the Mountain Bureau’s professional guides. Pairing this course with our AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course is the perfect way to start any backcountry ski obsession.
This course is an expansion on the skills learned in your Introduction to Backcountry Skiing course and/or AIARE 1 avalanche course. We will teach you how to plan efficient and fun trips, further into the backcountry. Learn all of the critical movement skills to be a safer backcountry skier, all under the watchful eye of a Mountain Bureau instructor. This is the perfect next step for people who have been on a couple of tours and want to improve their uphill and downhill techniques.

Starting with equipment selection and packing, we will cover all of the basics to get you ready to plan your own overnight ski tours. During our tour, we will focus on up and down movement basics with heavy overnight packs. Once we have reached our selected camp for the day we will work on building solid camps and cooking shelters that are comfortable for the long winter nights.
