Ski and Sail Norway | Lofoten, Norway
Ski and Sail Norway | LOFOTEN
Our Lofoten Islands Norway ski and sail expedition is probably best combination of anything I have done. It combines the two cultures I love the most.” ~Mark Allen
overview
Lofoten Islands are a backcountry skiers paradise located just north of the Arctic Circle along Norway’s spectacular northern coast line. Lofoten offers world class human powered skiing and is unique in terms of access, culture and climate. Traveling to ski by sailboat to access these majestic coastal mountains rising from the sea, is an experience of a lifetime. During this week-long trip, we will sail to a new ski venue each day in a stunning well equipped Långedrag 49ft steel cruiser. Traveling with skis and sails will get you close to nature, wildlife and a fully immersive ski expedition in this unique destination.
The Mountain Bureau Lofoten Ski and Sail program was built by local Lofoten skiers and has been curated by Mark Allen, founder of the Mountain Bureau and one of most experienced ski guides in Lofoten region. All tours will be planned according to where we get the best conditions for skiing. Depending on destination and current weather conditions, we will start the day with a good breakfast, organize our equipment into the skiff, head to shore, and ascend into the alpine. A true sea to summit ski adventure. Most of the peaks are between 750-1100m, with each tour staring and ending at the beach, and taking roughly 6-8 hours round trip. We´ll enjoy the stunning views and the days in the mountains, followed by time back at the boat for apres’, chilling, fishing, and dinner.
Join us for this once in a lifetime offering that is not to be missed!

accommodations
"SY Jolly" is a well-proven 1990 model Långedrag 49ft steel cruiser. This Dutch-built boat has a unique, strong and spacious design that makes her comfortable to sail and enjoy time on. Jolly was fully upgraded in 2016 and is ship-shape and ready for new adventures.
Jolly has a large cockpit and high freeboard. When the sun is shining, her huge deck is perfect for relaxation and sunbathing. Inside, starting from the bow, she has two spacious double-bed private suites. These beds can be separated into singles with a canvas wall if needed. The social area, located in the centre of the yacht, is fully equipped and ready to prepare delicious healthy meals. We make our own world famous "captain bread" almost every day.
In the aft (stern) is the Captain's cabin on the starboard side, and a three single-bed crew cabin on the port side. The two aft cabins share a bathroom with a shower, toilet and a small washing machine.
Built heavy for ocean crossings, Jolly takes some wind to get moving. We calculate with 5 knots for our passage planning. However, with her favorite wind (between 16-24 knots) she easily reaches cruising speed of 6,5-8 knots and gives us a comfortable ride.
Jolly is constantly maintained, and the crew prides themselves on keeping her and the equipment in the best possible conditions.
