Mazama is our lead guide’s, Mark Allen, backyard and training ground for the Mountain Bureau LLC. The Methow Valley’s winters, in Northeastern Washington, is indeed a fickle ice climbing venue. Yet conditions do often arrive and Mazama host several unique ice climbing opportunities near our rural township Winthrop WA. The quaint mountain culture provides a hub of winter outdoor activity not available West of the Cascades crest. The Methow attracts outdoor adventure archetypes all walks of life. If ice climbing is the focus of your trip, or simply an item on the agenda, this venue offers several options to satisfy the pallet of anyone visiting the area. Mazama Ice Craggin’
(Beginner to Intermediate) -ICE CLIMBING
Craggin’? Yes, cragging. A low commitment activity of simply enjoying climbing for ice climbing sake. Yet still requires a some effort to approach the venue, our crag can provide you everything we need from Intro to Ice and Mixed. You will learn some tricks and get to challenge yourself with the fundamentals of ice climbing movement. Craggin’ is a great option for first timers or ice climbers getting back into the sport of Ice climbing.

Beginner Ice - MULTI-PITCH ICE
Advanced Ice-MULTI-PITCH ICE +
There are a number of multi-pitch Ice climbs on Goat Wall taking you well above the valley floor. These climbs come in a variety of conditions based on our dynamic Mazama weather systems. Depending how the season unfolds, the ice could yield fat blue ice to anemic icy drips requiring mixed climbing between flows. When the conditions are in, you can find days of objectives to hold your attention.

GOAT WALL (II-IV M3-M8) -DRY TOOL CRAGGING -to- MULTI-PITCH + MIXED
Mixed climbing is the act of climbing rock in the winter equipt with ice tools. This is an important skill for any aspiring alpinist and is fast becoming a seasonal pastime for sport climbers in the winter months. Learn the fundamentals of this niesche facet of climbing and then lets challenge your skills into the next grade.
